Megiddo: ascending the tel

Remember, a “tel” is a hill that has been created by settlements literally building on top of each other in one spot throughout the course of time. Megiddo was built on a hill, but successive settlements (about twenty, beginning nearly six millennium ago) have also built it up as a tel. The top of Tel Megiddo stands about 90 feet above the plain below. The surface area of the of the summit measures about 13 acres.

This is a view of the ascent of Megiddo today.
