When has the land of Palestine not been either on the verge of war, embroiled in war, or emerging from a war? Through the millenniums, the land has known little peace.
It’s been said that old men start wars, young men fight them, and it’s the children who pay the highest price for it all, and who ultimately start the cycle all over again. There’s some truth in that old expression. Ironically, the expressions and body language of the people in this photo I snapped of an Ottoman era cannon on display in the square in front of the monastery connected with St. Peter’s Church in Jaffa almost seem to bear it out.
