praying for a change (40)

Don’t let it escape your notice, dear friends, that with the Lord a single day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like a single day. The Lord isn’t slow to keep his promise, as some think of slowness, but he is patient toward you, not wanting anyone to perish but all to change their hearts and lives. (2 Peter 3.8-9 CEB)

Help me to deeply hear what you’re saying to me here.

You’re not addressing the world. You’re talking to Christians. A Christian like me.

You’re telling me every day is a gift from you to me. It’s a day full of opportunity.

You’re saying everything rides on what I do with this gift and opportunity. Essentially, I am choosing whether I will live or perish.

You have great expectations and those expectations are the same for each and every one of us who know your Son. You want us all to change our hearts and lives.

You don’t want these matters to escape our notice. You don’t want me to file them away under “I’ll get around to that someday.”

So, God, as you’re not slow to keep your promises, may I not be slow to respond to your patient love.
